This book is a commemorative anniversary volume to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the invention of transistor, and is conceived following a joint effort between two IEEE Societies: Electron Devices Society (EDS) and Solid-State Circuit Society (SSCS). It provides a comprehensive yet compact coverage of the historical perspective underlying the invention of the transistor and its subsequent evolution into a multitude of integration and manufacturing technologies and applications. The book reflects the transistors development since inception to current stateoftheart that continue to enable scaling to very large-scale integrated circuits of higher functionality and speed. The stages in this evolution covered here are in chronological order to reflect historical developments. The areas of topical coverage are fully congruent with the Technical Areas of IEEEs Electron Devices Society (EDS).
