图书简介
The defensive side of cyber security is a particularly difficult challenge and typically utilizes a passive or reactive approach. Unfortunately, this approach puts defenders at a disadvantage because it is missing half of the larger story. The other half of the story is offensive security. Many defenders are either unaware of offensive security or they avoid it for a number of reasons. In The Active Defender: Immersion in the Offensive Security Mindset, readers are introduced to the idea of the Active Defender as an alternative approach for the defender in which they are taught to understand an attacker mindset and embrace the knowledge gained from the offensive security community. The active defender is not necessarily using offensive tactics, but rather because they understand the attackers thought processes, they are more easily able to grasp the nature of the risks and threats in their environments. Readers will learn that it’s not enough to just have a theoretical understanding, or even to have a practical understanding from the defensive side alone. They will come to understand that in order to be an active defender you have to have an intimate understanding of the threats you’re defending against, which means you need to immerse yourself in that mindset and in the culture of the attacker. After doing so, they will be far better prepared to defend against threats of all kinds. By the end of The Active Defender the reader will understand: What an Active Defender is and how that differs from traditional defense models How Active Defenders are more effective than passive ones Why thinking like an attacker makes you a better defender How to begin your journey as an Active Defender And the reader will be able to: Improve defensive effectiveness by leveraging the offensive mindset Identify ways to incorporate threat hunting early in their defensive practices Engage with the offensive security community Find offensive security tools they can use to better understand their organizations threats and vulnerabilities Find offensive security training that benefits them
