Innovation matters - it’s what helped us survive and thrive as a species. Right now we are wrestling with a pandemic and our way through is dependent on innovation. And our future, not least managing to live on our planet in sustainable fashion will depend on it.  But innovation isn’t magic - it’s what people do to translate ideas into value. So at its heart are Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (ICE) skills. The equation is simple - innovation is the result of creativity deployed to create valuable solutions, and it is channelled through people with energy, vision and skills - entrepreneurship. Innovation is what entrepreneurs do, and they do it in many contexts. Not just start-ups but in large established organizations, in public sector and not for profit organizations, in the wider social space of family, friends and community. We’re all innovators. Which makes it important to understand and learn the skills of being effective innovators. We know a lot about the ‘what?’ question of ICE - we have over a hundred years of research about how to organize and manage the process, even now an international standard which codifies this knowledge base. The challenge lies in the how? How do we help enable learning and practice of these skills and capabilities? How can we help develop the craft of innovation as a core life skill? This is a big question and it is one which concerns a wide audience. From learners wanting to broaden their skills and capabilities, through teachers and coaches concerned with improving their practice, to organizations as users, wanting to incorporate these skills and capabilities to policy makers wanting to grow societies which develop through responsible innovation.
