图书简介
This book offers an accessible, authoritative introduction to all aspects of infection prevention and control in hospital and community settings. It is aimed at student nurses, other student health professionals and those who teach these groups in classroom and practice settings. The book also provides a key resource for the many practitioners needing to update their knowledge, especially in the aftermath of COVID-19. Introduces the main groups of micro-organisms causing infection, explains the chain of infection and principles of prevention, healthcare-associated infections, specific types of policies for prevention in hospital and community settings (e. g. hand hygiene, cleaning, disinfection, sterilization) and site-specific infections: urinary; respiratory; enteric; sexually transmitted infections; parenteral infections; wound infections and infections related to intra-vascular devices. There is an introduction of each of the following sciences underpinning infection prevention and control: immunology, antimicrobial chemotherapy, epidemiology and applied research methods. These topics will be examined at the individual, and population level making direct links to what has been learnt from the COVID-19 pandemic. We will also consider subjects that are emerging as particularly important, such as infectious disease modelling, antiviral therapeutics, and vaccinology; and reflect the World Health Organization One Health approach, which seeks to link human, animal, and plant health to the environment. The book takes an evidence-based approach, utilising modern approaches not reflected in existing books. It will also reflect current decision making methods, for example, the GRADE and WHO Evidence to Decision Frameworks. The book will make direct links to standard guideline and other methodologies; making it an exemplar of evidence based practice. Provide s information accessing the most up to date data, and examine principles as well as more detailed examples; although the nature of the subject means that there will also be opportunities for updating should there be the demand. Where possible we will make links to external resources that are freely available, to ensure that the book is suitable for readers around the world; particularly in resource poor settings. International appeal will be increased by drawing on examples of infections and infection related challenges from different countries. The authors are acknowledged experts, each with over 25 years of experience as practitioners and teachers in the fields of infection prevention and control and management of infectious diseases. Edward Purssell has been ward manager of a regional paediatric infectious diseases unit and has an MSc in Microbiology. Dinah Gould has worked as an infection prevention nurse, was previously Professor in Nursing at Cardiff University and is a recognised international expert in infection prevention and control. Both are experienced at making complex concepts accessible to wide audiences.
