图书简介
Building on the success of the Blackwell Companion to Linguistic Anthropology (2004) edited by Alessandro Duranti, the New Wiley Blackwell Companion to Linguistic Anthropology takes a comprehensive view of the full field of linguistic anthropology with a focus on the developments, evolutions, and latest trends in research and theory since 2004. Over the last 16 years, research and theory in linguistic anthropology has grown in response to new challenges in the academic community and in the wider world. While some earlier modes of investigation have remained of high interest and some classic topics are still actively researched, new topics and approaches have also emerged which now represent much of the modern scholarship. The New Companion will feature a wholly new collection of essays covering the most exciting areas in the field today. The list of new authors has been carefully selected to offer a diverse range of perspective from researchers working in the most cutting-edge and forward-looking areas of linguistic anthropology. Alessandro Duranti, one of the foremost researchers in linguistic anthropology in the field today, returns to edit the New Companion. This time, he will be joined by co-editors Rachel George and Robin Conley Riner, each of whom is an active young scholar in linguistic anthropology and will bring valuable new perspective to the volume. The New Companion will address classic areas of scholarship--making the book a suitable choice for advanced courses in linguistic anthropology and sociolinguistics--as well as current and developing areas such as the relationship between language and experiential phenomena, efforts to use data from research in linguistic anthropology to address issues and questions in social justice, and the challenges and opportunities presented by social media, migration, and global neoliberalism. This New Companion will be unique for the comprehensive view of the field which it will offer. It will also offer a unique approach to the material, as each chapter will use ethnographic illustration, rather than simple description, to explain and explore each topic. As with the original Companion, this approach will enhance the value of the New Companion as a teaching text, particularly in upper level undergraduate and early graduate courses.
