Using a Marxist value critique, this book explores the existential threat that Artificial Intelligence (AI) poses to education, learning, and humanity. Challenging the idea that AI is a break from capitalist technologies, the book demonstrates how it strips workers and educators of skills through depedagogisation, reversal of learning relationships, and commodification of knowledge. Applying this to Higher Education, Preston argues that commodity fetishism, surveillance, and increasing productivity ushered in by the growth of AI, further alienates and exploits academic labour. Ultimately, the text puts forward new ways of thinking about AI to inform critical and revolutionary pedagogies.
