This book provides a beginner-friendly introduction to software engineering. It describes major development approaches and explains their pros and cons. It also describes the major tasks required by all approaches such as requirement gathering, system modeling, design, implementation, testing, and debugging.   It explains how each of those tasks is handled by the major development approaches, including linear, waterfall, and agile.   The book uses a conversational style that is appealing to beginners. It uses lots of figures and graphics to break up the text so it doesn’t feel like a never-ending lecture. Each chapter includes numerous case examples, and in the Try It Out and How It Works sections of each chapter, readers are invited to test their skills.   Each chapter also includes a summary of key points, and exercises.  Solutions to the exercises are included in the appendix.  No previous experience with programming, development, or management is required.
