This book will focus on model based state estimation methods, battery charging and balancing techniques for practical engineering applications. It will be presented in a way to fit the scope of a textbook which is suitable for senior undergraduate students, postgraduate students, researchers, engineers and self-learners. This book will lead readers from fundamental into the advanced topics. Chapter 1 provides the fundamental knowledge of EVs, batteries and requirements of BMSs for EVs. Chapter 2 discuses battery modelling techniques. These two chapters are the basis of the following chapters. Based on the battery models, this book provides the details of the estimation methods for SOC and state of energy (SOE) (Chapter 3), state of health (SOH) (Chapter 4) and state of power (SOP) (Chapter 5), their implementation in Matlab code and Simulink models and applications in EVs. Battery charging techniques and battery balancing techniques are also introduced in Chapters 6 and 7, respectively. Chapter 8 discusses the integration of model-based SOX (X=charge or energy or health or power, safety) estimators into BMSs.
