图书简介
This book presents the state-of-the-art review of current knowledge of gravel-bed rivers, derived from the 8th International Gravel-bed Rivers Workshop, the half-decadal meeting of the worlds leading authorities. Topics covered in this book include flow, physical modeling, sediment transport theory, techniques and instrumentation, morphodynamics and ecological topics. Special attention is given to aspects of disasters relevant to sediment supply and integrated river management. The book continues the series of workshop proceedings volumes that collectively are the definitive source of knowledge of gravel-bed rivers. The book will consist of the papers given at the meeting, as listed in the outline that accompanied the proposal. All of these papers have been commissioned, and the topics were chosen specifically to represent the areas in which recent progress has been made in the field. They are also chosen to represent a coherent progression through the principal areas of the subject (hydraulics; sediment transport; physical modelling; tools and methods; morphodynamics, sedimentology, large floods and river ecology). Consequently, the book will read as an up-to-date report of the state of the field. The chapters will be edited for consistency of format, notations, illustrations, and form of referencing, so that it becomes a coherent volume. The papers will appear in all respects to be chapters of the book, not papers from a meeting, consistent with all of the previous volumes.  There will be an introductory chapter, written by the editors, to specifically announce the theme of the book, to briefly tie it to the preceding volumes, and to tie the contributions together. The Editors will also prepare a coordinated index for the entire book. The only manner in which this will not appear to be a conventional monographic book is that each chapter will have its own author byline. The book will be essential reading for geomorphologists, river engineers and ecologists, river managers, fluvial sedimentologists and advanced students in these fields.
