图书简介
Theory and Application of Multiphase Lattice Boltzmann Methods presents a comprehensive review of all popular multiphase Lattice Boltzmann Methods developed thus far and is aimed at researchers and practitioners within relevant Earth Science disciplines as well as Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical and Geological Engineering. This book is targeted at researchers, graduate students, and practitioners who wish to investigate multiphase fluid phenomena using Lattice Boltzmann methods. Some practical examples of the use of this method are the recovery and enhanced recovery of petroleum resources from reservoirs, deep CO2 sequestration, non-aqueous phase liquid contamination of groundwater, surface wetting phenomena, capillarity, fuel cell operation, and the movement and evolution of clouds. These methods have some very significant advantages over traditional approaches for the simulation of multiphase fluids; in particular, interfaces need not be tracked explicitly but rather are an outgrowth of the underlying dynamics. While single phase Lattice Boltzmann methods have achieved a level of maturity and considerable success, multiphase Lattice Boltzmann methods are still undergoing development and there are numerous multiphase LB models available that have varying degrees of suitability for particular applications. Long-standing challenges in achieving high density ratios and minimizing spurious interface currents remain. Researchers and practitioners who wish to simulate multiphase flows will often want to capitalize on the advantages of the Lattice Boltzmann method. But they may quickly be discouraged and confused because there are so many multiphase Lattice Boltzmann models available. This book aims to help newcomers by answering the critical questions which model is best for my problem? and what are the advantages and disadvantages of each model? The book thoroughly analyzes all of the popular Lattice Boltzmann methods both theoretically and numerically. Typically, theoretical derivations found in the open literature are highly condensed and consequently difficult to follow. Here we fill the gap between theory and actual numerical simulations. Complete details of the derivations for these models are provided (in many cases for the first time), and how to write a functioning computer code according to the theory is illustrated in detail. Both those who desire complete theoretical details and those principally interested in applying the models will find what they need in the book. Finally, many examples that demonstrate the challenges and advantages of each model are provided. In addition to being a reference for researchers and practitioners, this book can serve as a textbook for graduate students in mechanical, petroleum, chemical, nuclear, and geological engineering and other branches of engineering and science. Taking a practical approach to the subject the authors plan bridge the divide between theory and  actual numerical simulations. All details of the derivations for these models are provided, and how to write a functioning code according to the theory is illustrated in detail. In addition, many examples that demonstrate the advantages of each model are provided. Hence, in addition to serving as a reference for researchers and practitioners, this book has the potential to be a textbook for graduate students in mechanical, nuclear, geological, chemical, and petroleum engineering. Practitioners in industry who wish to simulate multiphase fluids will find this book invaluable as it will demonstrate how best to apply multiphase LBM in practice. Readers can learn the advantages and disadvantages of each model quickly and choose the proper model most suitable for the flow problems they are interested in.
