This book will cover all aspects of modern sea-level studies, with a focus on the most robust scientific approaches and techniques.  It will build upon thirty years of international research, much of which was facilitated by a series of IGCP projects and the activities of INQUA sub-commissions.   In order to integrate studies across timescales from seconds to thousands of years and spatial scales from local to global we require a robust research methodology, research design that produce replicable data that can be transferred between authors and research projects.  This book will set out these methodologies, approaches and their technical requirements. The only previously similar book (Sea-Level Research: a manual for the collection and evaluation of data.  Edited by Orson van de Plassche, 1986) is out of print.  For perhaps 15 years it was a widely used reference and highlighted the need for a handbook approach.  It was especially useful in transferring approaches and skills beyond the research heartlands of NW Europe and North America.
