For each processing step, including casting, forming, heat treatment, coating and joining an introduction is given and relevant phenomena are highlighted, discussing the state of the art for the different simulation tools and yielding a summary of software packages addressing each phenomenon comprehensively. In particular, the discussion focuses on interfaces and data formats being provided for import/export of information. In view of covering an entire lifecycle of a component by simulations, also "missing tools" and "missing functionalities" are identified and a roadmap for their development is outlined.
