图书简介
The purpose of this text is to provide a state of the art introduction to modern palaeoecology, to train and inspire the next generation. A particular emphasis will be on how study and analysis of ecology from the deep past can inform our understanding of present and future environmental change. The intended readership is specifically graduate students and professionals in palaeontology, and more broadly graduate students and professionals interested in deep time research and the evolution of the Earth-life system. Of the several competing texts on palaeoecology (e.g., Dodd and Stanton, 1990, Paleoecology: Concepts and Applications), most focus on the utility of palaeoecology for interpretation of ancient environments and climates.  The text by Brenchley and Harper (1998, Palaeoecology: Ecosystems, Environments and Evolution) is the most recent one on the market, and is the most like this proposed text.  However, there will be a significant update in this text with the new material that has appeared in the past 14 years, and with the new focus on using palaeoecological studies to manage for future global change. Thus, no book like this one exists, and we are long overdue for a new text to lead the field of palaeoecology into the future.
